Hope you're burning in Hell, Jerry Falwell

DADT was repealed today. An important milestone in the culture wars, which are by no means over. But a huge victory nonetheless.
My view is that the Republicans have stonewalled the repeal of this absurd law because it represents a threshold. If we are to concede that heterosexuality and national security are core issues for a conservative (as opposed to liberals, who enjoy nothing better than enabling airplanes being flown into their offices as a result of homosexual shenanigans), then it becomes difficult to square the legitimizing of a group you have historically demonized as Satan's spawn by letting them be Soldiers, who Serve, and Sacrifice, so that we may be Safe, and enjoy our God-given Freedoms by going Shopping.
Just saying.
A tells me Andrew Sullivan has already said something to the effect. Well, pish.

Andy's been bumming me out lately. On most issues he's pretty willing to be critical, but when it comes to his religions (of the spiritual and financial kinds) the synapses in his brain stop firing and he repeats tired mantras.

In a lot of ways he seems so logical and analytical, so it befuddles me to no end that he's such a staunch (though critical) Catholic. That hitch in his thinking has come to irritate me more and more, as I now distrust a lot of his declarative statements. I usually only go to his site now to read other people's links or letters (the posting of which merits him a ton of credit).

And why anyone would post links to one M. McArdle without mockery and derision lies beyond my comprehension.

His conservative streak makes him more interesting, in my opinion, not less... most strikingly, in his journey from being a war-booster to war opposer.
Always an interesting read, though.
